My Daddy Left
But My Heavenly Father Stayed
My Daddy Left, But My Heavenly Father Stayed began in Fairfield (Englewood), Alabama. It is where Dr. Barbara Jean Brown Anderson was raised by her mother, Ma’me, and maternal grandmother, Mama Dear. It is also where Barbara experienced heartache at the young age of five. She quickly learned what life would be like without a daddy because he had abandoned her.
She loved, adored, and looked up to her daddy. Cruel but innocent comments or questions other children had about her daddy were hurtful and confusing. They asked why her daddy was never there for birthdays, school activities, church, or social events. Barbara Jean was one of many other children whose daddies walked away, abandoning them without a thought. It’s an emotional upheaval for any child who grows up without a daddy’s help learning to trust and build self-esteem. Her daddy walked out and abandoned his daughter, leaving no daddy to help her in a way only a daddy can do. Daughters who have been left by their daddies historically have been found to suffer consequences more significantly than boys. However, they also suffer from abandonment.
